Master Architect

A quintessential Quinn portrait. Hilton Head Island is a real challenge for Quinn. There’s twelve miles of uninterrupted sand, and he’s only got one small shovel. I almost bought a full-size shovel on the island Wal-Mart, but thought twice; I didn’t want him throwing out his back. There’s only so much damage an eleven-year-old can do armed with only a hand trowel.

Tuesday morning, and Quinn was back to sandcastle building. Dad went to work flying a kite. It was a bluebird day, 70 degrees, but a constant 30mph south wind made it feel a lot cooler.

All Good Things…

Of course, in the end, the water won. We knew the end, it was inevitable. That didn’t detract from the joy of the project, however.

At the end of the day, I’d be hard-pressed to say which was more fun – building the castle, or standing by and watching the ocean reclaim it. Life is good.

Final Details

While the tide attacks the front, Quinn builds a staircase around the back. Is it to save the villagers? Is it purely for decoration? We’ll never know. It’s all Quinn.
