Toilet Paper Money

I’ve been engaging in a vast campaign to rid myself of long-term assets denominated in US Dollars.  I believe that the dollar is doomed.  My strategy has been to spread assets out among real estate, metals, commodities, and foreign currencies.  There is some risk, of course, that the collapse of the Dollar will spread world-wide and lead to devaluation in Yen, Pounds, and Euros – but I believe that there will be some insulation.

Want an easy way to diversify?  Buy stock in Canadian companies.  The Canadian Dollar (CAD) has been steadily gaining on the US Dollar for the past few years, and that’s not going to change.  A collapse in USD, I believe, will result in a windfall for the CAD.  An investment in Canadian equities can lead to real appreciation due to exchange rate change, even with no change in the underlying stock price.

And don’t be afraid to buy gold — not as an investment, but as a survival tool.  You never know.
